Who are we?

If you have a child who attends Itchen Abbas Primary, we consider you a member of the Itchen Abbas Parents (or IAP for short). This is our Parent Teachers Association. It is also a registered charity, which allows us to apply for grants and organise fundraising within the community. Last year we were raising money for the new climbing frame and made a £9,300 contribution which is simply amazing!

This year we are raising money for Outdoor Learning, updating and purchasing new technology and the Early Years outdoor space.

As a small school, families of children attending the school play an important role and alongside the teaching team and others in the community make it such a special place for our children.

Below is the list of our committee members and class representatives for the year ahead. All of these are voluntary positions, and we will be doing our bit to organise things throughout the year. However, it’s a small school and every pair of hands is needed. Look out for organising groups on WhatsApp for big events like the Christmas and Summer Celebration.

How can I get involved?

Our school. Our community. We would love you to get involved.

Itchen Abbas is a wonderfully small, village-focused school — and it’s one of the things that is what makes it so special.

Our IAP community plays a really important part in school life. We bring families together, create opportunities to meet and have fun, and help raise money for the things that make a difference to our children's experience at school.

From community events and cake sales to fundraising for school projects, every contribution adds up.

But at the moment, we rely on a very small team of people to make it all happen. We would love to spread the load and get more families involved.

The good news? It doesn't take a huge amount of time.

Most roles take around 1–3 hours a month, with a little more time needed around particular events. You don’t need to attend meetings. IAPs get together roughly 3 times a year for general meetings, then catch up more frequently when planning events. Meetings are scheduled around everyone’s availability - we are flexible. Chair, Treasurer and Secretary roles aside, it's not critical to come to meetings, we can catch up outside of these.

The more people who get involved, the less time it takes for everyone.

You don't need previous experience, specialist skills or lots of spare time.

Just enthusiasm, a willingness to get stuck in and a desire to support our wonderful school.

It's also a great way to meet other parents, get to know people in the community and have some fun along the way.
